Artist statement
These three organic vessels are in the shape of tall round pots. They go from small to medium to large size. Half way through the each vessel there is an increasing diagonal line that spans across all three vessels. From that line to the bottom of the vessel there are small ridges next to each other.
For these pieces I use texture as a guiding element of design. The small ridges placed along the bottom of my pieces and the increasing diagonal design is created by using texture. The artist I used for inspiration for this peice started of as Albert Bierstadt. I changed my plan for my piece half way through creating it. My original plan was to create a bowl with landscape, like Bierstadt does with his paintings, but then i drifted away from that idea.
When I was making my peace I was thinking about how it would want it to look if i put succulents in it. I wanted to do many pieces that created on ebig effect and after many trials and errors i came to figure out that slab making was the best way to make many identical peices. To create depth and a more intricate design i decided that i could make them all different heights but do it so that they are increasing, so they still create a whole look. To go with the diagonal increasing line design to also create that effect. The texture i added at the bottom was a last minute idea that i thought would make it look better. It is used for succulents and plants in a home or indore setting.
I think the thought of the piece but i think the execution could have been a lot better. It could be cleaner and the lines could be straighter. I also spent a lot of time figuring out which design to go with so i could have been quicker on that. If it was neater and cleaner i would use this piece myself.
